ABOUT US

Mavuno empowers villagers to end extreme poverty in eastern Congo.

We work in rural villages, mobilizing and training community leaders to create their own business solutions to the problems of extreme poverty.

People before projects.

A lot of nonprofit organizations are known for their projects: drilling wells, distributing food or shoes, providing microloans.

Mavuno is different. We focus on people. Our solution is designed to harness the leadership of local villagers. When empowered people create sustainable businesses, they can end extreme poverty in their communities forever.

Learn more about our team

A nonprofit organization committed to measurable results and lasting change.

We’re not content with good intentions. We rigorously evaluate and measure our work, and modify our processes when something isn’t working. Above all, we listen to the communities we partner with. It’s the least we can do to honor the dignity of all people.

Background

Here’s what people have to say about Mavuno:

Having started a 501c3 focused on microfinance in developing regions, I know how difficult this work can be.  In the 35 countries I’ve explored, I have never seen anything as effective as this, that so intentionally and deeply involves the people it is built to help.

Brendon Maxwell - Founder, Utopian Coffee

The team at Mavuno is committed to the long and arduous process of responsible development. I’ve been impressed by their culture of planning and evaluation, and I truly believe they will make a measurable impact in the lives of the people they serve.

Chris Miller - Founder, The Mission Center L3C

Mavuno is different from other NGOs because they’ve established a climate of love and unity among us. On top of that, they empower us to accomplish the expected results by ourselves. With Mavuno, we are totally in charge.

Paluku - Village Leader, Bunzi, DRC

It’s not just an idea. It’s a reality.
